OCEAN DEPTH IN COOK STRAIT.—At a point in Cook Strait, midway between Lyall Bay and Blind River, is a depression, which, according to this reproduction from (he echo-sounder chart, drops down from 850 feet to a depth of /400 feet in a distance of one mile and a half. It was avoided by a detour in the route of the new coaxial cable just laid by the Recorder.
