NEW TENNIS CHAMPION.

A new tennis champion, and a worthy one, reigns at Wimbledon. By defeating von Cramm in the final the young American Budge crowned a remarkable performance, for he lost only one set in the tournament, and that to his compatriot Grant. Last year, when F. J. Perry won the title for the third time in succession, he defeated Budge (who had come through without losing a set) in the semi-final, and then, through von Cramm injuring himself, had an easy final match. This year von Cramm again reached the final, but the report of the match indicates that Budge is in a different class, and that if Perry had retained his amateur qualification he would have been hard put to it to retain his title. The performance of the Americans in the Davis Cup and at Wimbledon shows that their form was seriously under-estimated, particularly by the Australians. Budge and Mako have an excellent chance of winning the doubles against the English pair, and there appears a strong likelihood that Budge, Grant and Mako will later take the Davis Cup back to America.
