WENDY TELLS SUNBEAMS.

HOW TO MAKE A MATERIAL PATCHWORK QUILT.

Many clubs are apparently puzzled at references in these pages to "material patchwork quilts," and Wendy has recently received several requests to explain exactly what these quilts are. In the making of such quilts, no knitted patches whatsoever are used. Both the "quilt" and the lining comprise oddments of material (usually about the size of knitted patches—that is sin square) machined together. Some of these quilt 6 are made of gay floral cotton and print patches, and in such a case it is necessary to make certain that the linings comprise tweed patches, or some such material that will give the necessary warmth. The "quilt" part and the lining are then machined together lengthways and erossways as in the knitted quilts. Some very beautiful quilts of this description find their way to Sunshine House, and their warmth and usefulness cannot be over-estimated. Many clubs work a definite design into the quilts— as for instance a large scarlet-coloured, diamond-shaped patch in the centre, and a wide scarlet border round the quilt. Most clubs, however, would be able to devise for themselves an attractive pattern for their quilts. Wendy would be only too pleased to let Sunbeams examine these material patchwork quilts at Sunshine House.
