IMPROVED HACK.
PLANS FOR PARAKINO. TO RACE AT TRENTHAM. JONATHAN AS A HURDLER. Ono of the moot improved hacks on this coast is Parakino, who is to ruce at TrentIhiiii next week, lie has not been paid up for on the lirst day and may not rate until next, Saturday, when lie will contest the .Novice (Stakes (says our Wanganui correspondent). The Kiosk gelding went a good race at Wangauui and has conic on a lot since then. If the going is fairly good at Irentliaiu I'arakino should give a good account of himself. Air. and Mrs. >S. L. Parsons attended llie Great Northern meeting,' and on their return Hip the other day they visited Matamatii to see Jonathan being schooled over the hurdles. They were well pleased with the way the son of Thespian jumped, as ho cleared the obstacles in dashing style, 110 is just the stamp to make good at the jumping game, and W. J. McLean, who now trains him, is very hopeful that Jonathan will prove a success .at hurdling. The Wanganui sportsmen Messrs. J. T. and I'. A. O'Neill, owners of Lowenberg, have a nice-looking roan lilly by Beau Peve from Wood Pulp, for which they jiavc claimed the name Jane Seymour. She is one of eight yearlings by Beau Pere nominated for the Wanganui Guineas of 1!)38. Gordon is having Master Norval schooled over hurdles. This gelding was to have raced at Awapuni, but the date of acceptance was overlooked. He has come on well since \V/inganiii. Master Norval had a race over hurdles at Auckland some two or three years ago, when ho came to grief through another horse falling in front of him. The yearling Homily, by Posterity— Homage, is a very promising filly, and with her and the three youngsters W. Kayner has in hand Mr. G. M. Currie should win some of the two-year-old events next season. The Limond—Miss Thespian colt in Riiyner's stable is making good progress and is one of the most beautiful movers neen for years. A massive colt, he seems destined to take a high place among next season's two-year-olds.
It, was recently stated tlmt the Wanganui Jockey Club intended to apply for March 17 and 10 as the dates for its autumn meeting in 1038. Some opposition lias been expressed to these dates and the club will apply for February 17 and 10. The Taranulvi Club is applying for February 3 and 5, and Kgnlont for the 10th and 12th of the name month, with Woodvillc anxious to get February 10 and 21. Tt has been suggested that Woodvillc might agree to race or the 17tli and 10th, and if the dates were then arranged these four meetings would make a circuit which should bo very convenient for owners, providing, as it would, racing on every Thursday and Saturday in February.
