KILLED BY TRAIN. RETURNED SOLDIER. DRAGGED ALONG BY CLOTHES. NOBODY SAW ACCIDENT. tßy Telegraph.—Press Association.) TE AWAML'TU, this day. A shot-king fatality occurred at the Te Awamutu railway station this morning, the victim being Mr. Maurice Keith Laird, aged 41. married, who recently arrived from Westmere to take over a farm near Ohaupo. Mr. Laird had come into town from his farm to meet a young employee who was arriving by the north-bound Limited express. When stepping off the train his clothing became caught and he was dragged along the line for about 100 yard*. Xobody saw the accident, but after the train had gone a porter saw a dark object lying near the watertauk. An investigation was made and Mr. Laird's body was found. It was terribly mutilated. A returned soldier, Mr. Laird was a highly respected farmer.
