SUSTENANCE FRAUDS.
WORE MEN FINED. FALSE DECLARATIONS. Again this morning :>. number of men were pnv-ecutcd by Mr. W. A. Black, of the Department of 1-abour. for bavin? made false declarations or statements to obtain benefit under the Employment Promotion Act. As in previous oases Mr. C. R. Orr Walker. N.M.. fined the defendants a little more than the total sum they had obtained iu exei-ss of the sustenance they were entitled to receive. The following were dealt with: — Frederick DuMin. fined £3 and costs; Ernest Richard Elinore. £•"> and costs; Solomon Parkinson, £5 and costs; Patrick James Scelly. £7 10/ and costs. William Kiissell Jenkins, who Mr. Bhick said worked under the name of "'J. Ku*eell," and who by one false declaration obtained Christinas benefits he wa< not entitled to because he was on accident compensation, was fined £8 10/ a u<l co*ts. "Vou made 13 false declarations nnd obtained £11 14/ in excess, so I will fine yon £13 and costs." the magistrate said tii Owen Kdwurd Price. "To-day is Friday, so this is your unlucky day."
