Results and principal performances in the series of county cricket matches which began on Wednesday:— Worcestershire: First innings, 123 (Clay nine wickets for 66); second, 360 (Martin 92; Clay eight for 146). Glamorgan: First innings, 417 (Turnbull 233); second, one wicket for 70. Glamorgan won by nine wickets. Kent: First innings, 104 (Goddard six wickets for 26); second, 144 (Goddard six wickets for 67). Gloucestershire: Firat innings, 279 (Barnett 103, Hammond 90). Gloucester won by an innings and 31 runs. Yorkshire: First innings, three wickets for 523 declared (Sutcliffe 189, Hutton 153. Leyland 118 not out); second, four wickets for 77. Leicestershire: First innings. 458 (Dempster 146, Watson 122). Yorkshire won on the first innings. Essex: First innings, 119 (Hazell five wickets for 23); second, 373 (O'Connor 107). Somerset: First innings, 94 (Nichols four wickets for 32); second, 237. Essex won by 161 runs. Sussex: First innings, 317 (Cox 96, H. Parks 89): second, eight wickets for 314 declared (Bartlett 122). Cambridge Uriiversity: First innings, 314 (Yardley i»i, Tindall 117); eecend, four for 204. The match was drawn.
Hampshire: First innings, 341 (Pothecary 115); second, one wicket for 199 declared (Arnold 105 not out). Derbyshire: First innings, 265 (D. Smith 140 not out); second, seven for 172. Hampshire won on the first innings. Northants: First innings, 168; second 274 (Cuthbertson 96). Lancashire: First innings, 234 (Partridge five wickets for 38); second, four for 211 (Waslibrook 121 not out). Lancashire won by six wickets. Oxford University: First innings, 171; second, 192. Surrey: First innings. 357 (Fishlock 143); second, no wickets for 9. Surrey won by ten wickets.
