A STRONG TEAM.

TRENTHAM ENTRIES.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATION.

A GLANCE AT THE FORM. i The Auckland province is will represented among the entries for the Wellington winter fixture, which opens at Trentham on July b' and will be continued on July 8 and 10, and if the acceptances arc in any way commensurate with the norninntions there is a prospect of a fair proportion of the stake money coming this way.

The entries include Chang, All Irish, Lucidus, Besiege, Square Acre, Jan Ridd, Young I'addon, Ellanui, Gadger, Bass, Count Roussillion, Boughal, Grateful, Whirling, Royal Dance, Irish Comet, Black Marlin, Tudor, Valpeen, Eiination, Lord Val, Sandy Dix, Allegretto, Master Musk, Valmint, Enge, Light Comedy, Prince Acre, Armacourt, Orac, Jewelled Girdle, Huskie, Valpai, Maori Song, Locknit, Booklaw, Illuminagh, Gay Rebel, Merial, Day Wind and Dutch Girl.

The Jumpers. Irish Comet, who won both the Great Northern Steeplechase and the Winter Steeplechase at Ellerslie earlier in the month, is entered for the Wellington Steeplechase and the July Steeplechase, iind after his recent form he should again give a good account of himself. Black Martin, who met with a mishap while schooling at Ellerslie prior to the Great Northern meeting, and failed to show his best form in the big cross-country event and also in the Winter Steeplechase at the same fixture, has been working nicely during the week, and he looks quite as well as he did prior to winning the Coronation Steeplechase at Te Rapa last month. Chung made an auspicious start over country when he finished second at Tauranga lust Saturday. He should have prospects in minor steeplechase events, as should also All Irish, who accounted for the Hunt Club Hurdles and the Hunt Club Cup at the Great Northern meeting. Tudor had only one start at the Great Northern meeting, and that was when he ran second in the Winter Steeplechase to Irish Comet with 12.L If he goes on the ■ght way he should again be in the money at Trentham, for he is one of the best chasers in the country. Yalpeen showed something like his old form when he ran second in the Great Northern Steeplechase recently, and though he failed in the Winter Steeplechase he was prominent for a good way. He is anything but a spent light yet. Huskie raced most consistently at the Great Northern fixture, being second in the Great Northern Hurdles and occupying a similar position in the Remuera Hurdles, while he won the Campbell Hurdles on the last day. Allegretto, after winning at Te Rapa, came on to Auckland, to finish third in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and in the -Winter Steeplechase occupied a similar position. He is a good horse when right.

Northern Hurdles Winner. Sandy Dix won the Great Northern Hurdles and was third in the Campbell Hurdles. He met with interference in the latter event, otherwise he would have been a great deal more troublesome. Bass was having his first race in public when he fell three furlongs from home in the Orakei Hurdles at the Great Northern meeting. He was right tip with Lady England when the mishap occurred, and the latter went on to win easily. Bass is a most promising sort, for he can jump and baa plenty of pace. Lucidus was a winner, at Tauranga, after being placed at Te Rapa and Ellerslie over country, and is capable of still further improvement. Erination has proved himself a good hurdler, but has had little racing over the big jumps/ However, he cannot be discarded, for experience in public over steeples should do; much for him. Boughal is also a good hurdler, having won three races this season in this department, and he should keep the opposition busy for a time at least. Lord Val won the Corunna Hurdles at Trentham last winter, and at the recent Great Northern meeting annexed the Remuera Hurdles and was just beaten by Huskie in the Campbell Hurdles. He has rarely looked better than he does at present, and it,will not be for lack of condition if he fails to perforin prominently.

The Fiat Racers. The flat racers. include Valmint, who showed excellent _ form at ' the Great Northern meeting, when he was narrowly beaten in the Cornwall .Handicap and fin-; ished second to Royal Appellant in the York Handicap. He' has progressed .well in the meantime, and it is doubtful if he was ever " better : . ; than at presents.:f,;lliß engagements include the Whyte Handicap, the Parliamentary Handicap and the: 'Winter Oats. Whirling is a. fine sprinter, and after his good efforts at Te Rapa and the Great .Northern"meeting will have'to "be considered' if* started in the Stewards', Members' -or Onslow Handicaps, for which he is entered. Royal Dance has not shown much form'-recently, but still ruiis well on this course, for at the last Wellington winter fixture he won the Onslow Handicap, six furlongs, on the concluding day. Enge was just beaten in the King George Handicap 'at Ellerslie, half hearts dividing Armacourt, Prince Acre and him, the judge placing them in that Order. This trio should also make their presence felt. Besiege and Gay Rebel are two solid hacks that have both won recently, while Merial, who accounted for the open sprint on the last day of the Great Northern meeting, is a very likely sort to get a stake. This filly was having her first race in open company on that occasion. Day Wind showed a return toform last Saturday by winning the Opotiki Cup at Tauranga. He is a good stayer and is not without prospects. Jewelled Girdle is also useful, while Dutch Girl, now that she has struck form, may go on with it.

Altogether the team is a strong one, but of course much will depend on the weights, which are due for the first day on Monday. 'Several of the horses mentioned are racing 'at Te Awamutu to-day.
