WAIPA MEETING.

THE WINTER FIXTURE.

Outsiders Score—London and

Te Monowai.

The Waipa Racing Club's winter meeting is being held at Te Awamutu to-day in cold and showery weather. There is a large attendance, and the track is in fair order for this timej>f the year.

After many disappointing performances London returned to the winning list when he annexed the Hack and Hunters' Steeples. He jumped proficiently throughout, and going to the fiont about three furlongs from home, was, never in danger of defeat. Chang and Kinkle ran fair races, but Tuaheahe ran off. Red Fox was the early leader, but at the first hurdle Arcadian came to grief and brought down IllumLuagh, while Booklaw also fell. Chang soon took charge, and passing the stands, was just showing out from Englishman and Gaseyne, this trio being followed by London, Friendly Boy. Kinkle and Diacqnedoon. Cascync fell crossing the top, and London moved up to join Chang. the pair piloting the field over the double whore Diacqnedoon. Englishman and Kinkle were racing in that order. Tuaheahe and Hed Fox both ran off at this stage, and along the back London and Chang were well clear. The former tl-en began to draw away, and once the last obstacle was negotiated he went on to score comfortably by four lengths from Chang, who held on to l>eat Kinkle by a neck. Diacqnedoon was 20 lengths away fourth, and then came Englishman and Friendly Boy at intervals.

Another Surprise. Having his first onting, Tc Monowai easily beat the opposition in the Trial Handicap. He was drawn in the middle of the Weld and moved up fast at the end of two furlongs, to be fully four lengths in front at the home turn. Mai de Mer ran a good Tace, but the favourite, British Ambassador, was never in the picture. Stormy Weather drew the extreme outside and showed a lot of speed in the middle stages. Mai de Mer was first to break the line, but crossing the top was showing the way to Superior Ouard. Mai de Mer. General Riske, Seven Seas, Very (!lad, and Stormy Weather. Te Monowai began to draw away at this stage, and at the home turn was four lengths clear of Mai de Mer. Superior Guard. General Riske. Stormy Weather and Ngakaru. Nothing had a chance with Te Monowai, and he went on to win easily by four lengths from Mai de Mer, with Tui Nui finishing well, half a length away. Superior Guard was fourth, and then came Very Glad. Ngakaru. Requiem, Nuipapa, General Riske and British Ambassador.

A Great Finish. Day Wind attempted to win the Woodstock Stakes all the way, but Gay Rebel came at*him just after turning for home, and the pair had a great set-to, wjth the judge declaring a head-heat. Gay Rebel was pocketed oh the rails crossing the-tofs an.l his rider, had'to bring him on the outside, and it was- a fine effort on his part. Mungatoon was always well in the picture, while Bonny Gay and Armacourt had every chance. Passing the stands Bonny Gay was in front from Day Wind and Baroscope, together, then following Gay Rebel. Mungatoon. Armacourt. Grateful and Respectful, with Gay Rose last. Mungatoon and Day Wind then raced through, and this pair were in charge along the back from Bonny Gay, Armacourt. Gay Rebel, Baroscope. Respectful and Grateful. As they raced across the top Gay Rebel was still tucked in on the rails, and the order round the turn was Day Wind. Mungatoon. Bonny Gay. Respectful, Gay Rebel and Baroscope. Once in line Gay Rebel came fast on the out- : dc. and in n rare tussle ju>t g.->t up in time to dead-heat with Day Wind. while Mungatoon was only a neck awav third. Bonny Gay was fourth, and then followed Loombination. Armacourt. <;.iv Rose, Prince Colossus and Respectful. Detailed results arc: — TRIAL HANDICAP of £l<x\ .Six furlong;.
