TRACK GALLOPS.

WAIPA CANDIDATES. DON ERMA'S PROGRESS. ARMACOURT AND VALMINT. There was very little fast work at Ellerslie this morning, and the going on No. 3 grass track, on which the poles were out 10ft, was heavy, the majority of the horses being allotted pace work on the sand. Thurwind (McTavish) strode over a round in 1.52 3-5. He increased the pace over the last three furlongs, which he ran in 41 3-os. Aero Queen (Tremaiu) was sent six furlongs, but was only doing a shade better than 15s to the furlong. Armacourt (Vaughan) was allotted a round, and after commencing slowly she was timed to run her last six furlongs in 1.23. Don Erma (L. Dulieu) traversed a round in 1.52, the last six furlongs taking 1.26 4-5. This horse has done well since the Great Northern meeting. Valmint (R. Fearn) reeled off six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, the first three being covered in 39 3-ss. Scrounger (Murray) assisted him over the last half-mile, which took 545, the latter being several lengths away at the finish, though he went well for a novice. - Black Marlin (D. Green) did strong work over a round, and was timed to run his hist half-mile in 58s. This horse 'is now bearing an improved appearance. Lord Val (Wiggins) finished up a useful task by running his last three furlongs easily in 435.

On the sand My Money, Jolly Dance and Rajanya, a gelding by Acre from Diamond Queen, ran home from the halfmile poet in 54 4-ss. They were doing their work well at the finish.

A SMART SPRINT.

SURVOY'S ATTRACTIVE SEVEN

A feature of the work at Takanini this morning was an attractive seven furlongs by Survoy, who ran the distance in 1.29 2-5 on the inside grass, where the going was good. He went Tast early and ran. the first three furlongs in 36 4-ss, four in 48 3-ss, and five in 1.1. Grateful completed a round by covering his last three furlongs in 445. Mia Acrea and Silver Glow got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7. They ran the first three furlongs in 375, and both were stopping at the end. Highborn was going comfortably while traversing six furlongs in 1.27 3-5. Royal Passage completed a mile in 1.54 3-5, the first half taking 55 2-ss. He worked lazily. Fox Moth was going nicely while running her last three furlongs in 39 3-ss. Disturbed and High Sea were on terms at the conclusion of half a mile in 535. High Quality (Walters) gave a safe display over four schooling hurdles.

ORAC'S EFFORT. HO PA LONG SCHOOLED. (By Telegraph—-Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. • There was little of note recorded at Te Rapa this morning, when the coui-se proper, about 50ft out from the rails, was available for galloping. A number of horses were worked at strong threequarter pate, while others sprinted down the straight. The going was in good order for this time of the year.

The first to work were Orac (Mclnally). and Sir Tommy (Glading), who hit out over half a mile in 53s—a useful effort. Orac jumped away a length and a -half ahead of his companion and was-a shade in front .at- the finish. Young Paddon (Long) was under a nice hold to record 54 l-os for a similar effort. Respectful (Gollop) bit out over a round in 2.6, being brought home over the last five furlongs

by Stormy Weather, who finished clear in 1.8. i Precise (Gallop) was doing better ■than Cometarium (Glading) at the completion of half a mile in 565. Cometarium appears to. be coming right again and interest will attach to his progress from now on. Shining Spear (Glading) ran once round in 2.15. Sunny Downs (Mclnally), who appears to have derived benefit from his recent racing, came home from the half mile in 555. Allegretto ran once round at strong three-quarter pace and is bearing a healthy appearance. Grand Score (McLaughlin) and L'AUegro (R. Ferguson) were associated over four flights of huddles and, while they negotiated them safely, the exhibition was not an impressive one. Hopalong (McLaughlin) was schooled twice over the pony huz-dles along the back and handled his task in pleasing style. Riding engagements for Waipa are:—B. Sullivan, Erination, Chang; X. R. McKenzie, Stormy Weather, Enge; J. Muir, Kinkle, Windsor Lad, Boughal; 0. Mclnally, Sunny Downs, Johnny Walls, Mangakowhai.
