LEAGUE TRIPS.

WELLINGTON GROUND.

CRITICISM BY COUNCIIi.

INTER-ISLAND MATCHES.

Commenting upon a letter received from the Wellington Rugby League, from which it was deduced that the Basin Reserve had not been made available for the Ponsonby Club to play St. George at Wellington to-morrow, the president of the New Zealand Council of the Rugby League, Mr. J. A. Redwood, last evening said it seemed that, while the Wellington City Council had granted permission for the special use of the ground, the Soccer authorities had not permitted the match to be played there. "This is unfortunate in view of the facilities granted by the Australian Board of Control to Soccer, and the generosity of the Auckland Rugby League in connection with Carlaw Park," remarked Mr. Redwood.

Mr. N. Kyle said he, too, was sorry that the Soccer people at Wellington had adopted such an attitude. At New Plymouth the Association football had given up its turn at Pukekura Park to allow Mount Albert to play a local club side. He considered that th* council's disappointment should be expressed at the attitude in Wellington, where, fortunately, Newtown Park was available.

The president extended a welcome to the new treasurer, Mr. W. J. Taylor, until recently South Auckland delegate for 10 years.

The Rev. W. N. Panapa, representing the New Zealand Maori board, took his seat on the governing body as a member with full voting power.

Mr. Redwood reported that the North Island selectors would travel to-morrow, Mr. A. T. McG'lyinoiit going to Wellington and Mr. H. Avery to Whangarei. In reply to a suggestion from Mr. Stallworthy, it was pointed out arrangements had been made for special reports on games and players in other districts, in view of the inter-Island match next month.

The South Island selector. Mr. J. E. Amos, advised that he would see Inangahua players in Christchurch, before his trip to Greymouth to witness the Northern Union Cup match with Canterbury.

Favourable consideration is to be given to an application for a Maori representative match against the Kangaroos in August.

After discussion it was decided to defer for a fortnight the appointment of a delegate to England for the International Board conference. The president stressed the importance of the matter to New Zealand in various international aspects.

A letter from the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association (Auckland Centre) regarding the proposal of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to form a national council of sport, was referred to a special committee. It suggested a federation of all sports bodies.

Transfer: J. O'Brien (Marists), Auckland, to South Auckland.
