THE FINAL DAY.

WINTER STEEPLES.

REPRESENTATIVE FIELDS.

THE FORM REVIEWED.

The Great Northern Steeplechase meeting of the Auckland Racing Club will be concluded at Ellerslic to-morrow, and given fine weather the fixture should prove one of the most eucceeeful that the club hae held at this period of the season for many a year poet. The field* are good throughout, and there should again be some highclaee racing. Further rain fell laet night, and the going k sure to again be on the heavy aide. Betting will be on the single pool system.

TAMAKI STEEPLES. The programme will commence with the Tamnki Steeplechase, for which ten are curded. Emancipation was second in the Greenlnne Steeplechase last Saturday and the race should improve him. Cynical Kid failed in the Hunt Club Hurdles on the first day, but Lucidue was going well in the Greenlane Steeplechase when he came to grief. However, he made only a fair showing in the Penrose Hurdles on Wednesday. St. Musk was also well in the picture in the Greenlane Steeplechase when be fell at the stonewall at the bottom of the hill the last time. He also led for a good way in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Sky Pilot won the Greenlane Steeplechase in good style and he ie sure to be in demand, while Kinkle was third in that event. London, who was fourth in the same race, may be improved as the result of his outing. A trio that may be in most request are SKY PILOT EMANCIPATION ST. MUSK. THE HACK HURDLES. Collision won the Penrose Hurdles on Saturday with 11.0 and is now top-weight in the Orakei Hurdles with 121b more, but he should again be hard to dispose of. Boughal was a winner over hurdle* at Whangarei and also at Egmont, and is not without prospects. Gay Broney ran excellently for hie first race over hurdles when he finished second to Collision last Saturday, and he is now meeting the winner on much better terms. Englishman failed in thee Hunt Club Hurdles on Saturday and fell in the Hunt Club Cup on Wednesday. Lady England was third in the former event, while High Star, after leading practically all the way in the Panmure Hurdles, tired over the last bit to be beaten by Windsor Lad. Gadger finished third in that event, while United made a fair showing in the Penrose Hurdles on Saturday till a couple of furlongs from home. Red Fox was fourth in this race. Bass has yet to be tested in public, but he has schooled excellently since his arrival at Ellerelie. It is stated that this horse has also done well at Matumata when - tried over obstacles. A preference may be shown for COLLISION GAY BRONEY BOUGHAL. THE CHIEF FLAT EVENT. The York' Handicap, the chief flat event, has attracted the largest field of the day. Kelly failed in the King George Handicap on Wednesday, but he has been galloping well. Scotland has failed in both his starts at the meeting, and the same applies to Tooley Street. Triune is a newcomer and can run a good mile. Gay Rose got badly away in the Cornwall Handicap and may do better to-morrow. Boomerang won that event by a narrow margin and should again go well to-morrow. Prince Acre was only just beaten in the King George Handicap on Wednesday and is a likely sort. Armacourt has been scratched for this event. Kiltowyn has only had one race for several months, and that, was when he contested the Members' Handicap on the first day. He may be improved by that outing. Versant has started on a couple of occasions at the meeting, winning the Members' Handicap on the first day and finishing fourth in the King George Handicap on Wednesday. Royal Appellant disappointed in the Cornwall Handicap, but Valtnint ran a great race in the same event, going under by only half a head to Boomerang. He is good in this kind of going. Knge has run two excellent races at the fixture, particularly on Wednesday, when he was narrowly beaten into third place in the King George Handicap by Armacourt and Prince Acre. He will see out the distance all right. Of the others, Royal Dance, Tybalt, Bonny Gay, Tradesman and Pennycomequick may be the best. The bulk of the money may go on - ENGE / BOOMERANG .VALMINT. THE STEEPLECHASE. Eleven have been paid up for in the Winter Steeplechase. Tudor, the topweight, has previously won over the Ellerelie country, and was going particularly well at Te Rapa last month when he was brought to grief half. a mile from home. Royal Limond did not impress in the Great Northern Steeplechase, but Valpeen did, and he should again be in the money. Windsor Lad had a couple of falls at Te Rapa and was in front on the second day when he came down about half a mile from home. His victory in the Panmure Hurdles at Ellerelie on Wednesday shows that he is at his best again. Allegretto was third in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and, seeing that this was only his second outing for twelve months, should be considerably improved. Don Erma ran well for the greater portion of the distance in the Great Northern Steeplechase, an event Irish Comet won .easily. The latter is also engaged and should again be troublesome. Black Marlin failed to complete the course in that event, while Sky Pilot has a prior engagement in the Tamaki Steeplechase. The principal selections may comprise VALPEEN ALLEGRETTO IRISH COMET. THE CAMPBELL HURDLES. Lord Val, after his two excellent races in the Great Northern and Remuera Hurdk-s, is now top-weight in the Campbell Hurdles, and he will again have to be considered. Sandy Dix won the former event well, while Huskie, who wae second to him and also to Lord Val in the Remuera Hurdles, will have to be considered. Modern Maid wan in the picture for a good •way until she injured herself in the Great Northern Hurdles, but she has quite recovered, and is expected to make a prominent showing. High Quality and Killndar look the best of the others. The public may go for LORD VAL SANDY DIX MODERN MAID. THE OPEN SPRINT. A dozen are engaged in the Visitors' Handicap, the open sprint of the day. Whirling, after performing well .at Te. i»apa, was second in the Members' Handicap on Saturday. Peter Beckford was a winner at Te Rapa and has yet to make his appearance at the meeting, but he galloped particularly well yesterday morning. Versant has an engagement in the York Handicap us well as this event, and. if reserved will have a good following. Black Thread ran quite a good race in the Members' Handicap on Saturday, finishing fourth, while Mat* Haii was prominent for six furlongs in the King George Handicap on Wednesday. Greek Gold was running second in the middle stages of the Members' Handicap, eventually finishing fifth, and was second in this event last year. Gay Seton dead-heated for second with Black Thread in the Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs, at Tβ Rapa last month,

which was his last outing. He may again go well. Surella won two races at Hawera, but failed in the Members' Handicap on Saturday. Te Hai and Professional may be the best of the remainder. The favourites may be . PETER BECKFORD VERSANT WHIRLING. THE FINAL EVENT. The meeting will conclude with the Fitzroy Handicap. Small Boy was only beaten by a head by Erndale in the Jervois Handicap, while he dead-heated with Tail Light in the Carbine Plate, and he is sure to have plenty of friends. The latter is also engaged. Jewelled Girdle was only half a head away from the dead-heaters in the Carbine Plate, and he will also have to be respected. Black Musk, Grand City and Philemup have failed to get in the money in their outings at the meeting, but Valspear ran an excellent race in the Ranfurly Handicap on Wednesday, only being beaten into third place over the last bit. Gay Rebel was third in the Jervois Handicap and he is a most likely improver. Pirate King has shown up in his races at the meeting, but has failed to stay on. Alyth has run a couple of good races at the fixture, being fourth in the Jervois Handicap and second in the Ranfurly Handicap. Erlick was second in a division of the Windsor Handicap, six furlongs, at the recent Pukekche meeting. This was his last start, and he is a likely improver. Thurwind and Captain Bruce appeal most of the others. Betting is sure to take a wide range, and a trio that may carry the bulk of the money is GAY REBEL SMALL BOY JEWELLED GIRDLE.
