MR. PHILIP LE QL'ESNI
Hamilton's oldest resident, Mr. Philip Le Quesne, has died eight months after having celebrated his 100 th birthday on October 7, last.
He had taken a prominent part in the social and commercial life of the town for over 70 years, and had earned the title of the "Father of Hamilton."
The story of Mr. Le Quesne's life showed how a stranger, landing many Vears ago in a new country, struggled from comparative poverty in diflicult titnes to a position of comfort, and made his name one that will lie remembered as one of the pioneers of the Dominion.
Born in Jersey on October 7, IS3G, he remained there until lie was 24 years of ape. He learned the trade of a carpenter.
Mr. Le Quesne'e sons are Mr. Winter John Le Quesne, of New South Wales, and Mr. Alfred Le Quesne, of Auckland, and his daughters are Mrs. ('. Quick and Miss H. Le Quesne. of Hamilton. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
