CHILD'S DEATH.
CHOKED BY MILK.
UNATTENDED IN COT.
FEEDING FROM BOTTLE.
« WARNING TO MOTHERS."'
The danger of leaving infant children unattended whilst they are feeding from a bottle was commented upon by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., thus morning at an inquest upon the death of Maurice Vivian O'Brien, aged three months, the son of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth O'Brien, of Meadowbank Road, Rernuera. The evidence showed that on Friday week about 1.30 p.m. Mrs. O'Brien placed the child in a cot with its head on the pillow and the teat of a full feeding bottle' in its month. Mrs. O'Brien then left the child unattended while she proceeded with her household duties. Upon returning to the cot about three-quarters of an hour later she was alarmed by the appearance of the child, and at once called in a doctor, who found the child was dead. Medical evidence, subsequent to a postmortem examination, stated that death wa«* due to asphyxiation caused by the inhalation of milk into the lungs. In finding that death was due to the cause given in the medical evidence, Mr. Hunt stated that the case should be a warning to mothers and all 01 her people in charge of infant children against the practice of leaving infants unattended while feeding from a bottle.
