TRAINING AIR PILOTS.
New Zealand's aero clubs receive a welldeserved recognition of their services and community status in the plan announced to-day for the training of Air Force pilots. It is a simple fact that without the clubs there would be little aviation in the Dominion. With their help, even in the last seven years, 582 pilots have been trained to the standard required for the issue of the "A" license. Now the clubs are to be entrusted with the preliminary training of Air Force pilots, to the number of 50 a year. The standard of qualification required necessarily will be higher. In addition the clubs will be helped to train members of the "Civil Reserve of Pilots," and training for the selected men will be free. This appears to be the opportunity ,for which many young men I have been Availing, and there is likely to be (keen competition for selection as trainees, the [number of vhom is limited 100 a year.
