WEEK STARTS QUIETLY. SOME STOCKS IMPROVE. A fresh week started quietly for the Auckland Stock Exchange, and at the first call only three gales were recorded. In the bankinij; section Commercials' opened easier, with a market between 19/ and 19/3. New Zea lands were still in demand at £2 4/6, hut sellers raised their limits to £2 5/3. Buyers for Australasias increased their offers to £12 10/ without attracting sellers. Government stocks and local body debentures were again practically off the market, the only offering being a parcel of '43-'46's, which was available at £104. Buyers for South British dropped their offers to £4 13, 0. In Australian issues there were signs of improvement. G. J. Coles sold 1/9 higher, at £5 10/3, with more wanted at that price and sellers 6d higher. Kleetrolytic Zincs were better, with buyers for the ordinaries at £2- 16/9 and for the preferences at £2 17/3. Mount Morgans were quoted higher, between 13/9 and 14/. Peters Ice Cream were quoted ex dividend, with a market between £1 6/9 and £1 10/. New Peak for Dunlops. A sharp rise in Dunlop, Perdriau and a further improvement in G. J. Coles marked the noon call. The former reached the peak price of £ 1 2/, a rise of 1/ since last week, and later buyers went still higher, to £1 2/1, holders asking £1 2/4. Coles made a further advance to £5 10/9, 6d above the morning rate, with more wanted at that figure and sellers at £5 11/6. Among local issues Consolidated Bricks took a turn for the better, gelling 2d higher, at .8/5, and having final quotations firm on that price. Holders of Mtunt Morgans raised their limits again to 14/6, the highest offer being Tinchanged at 13/9.
