TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. BROKERS FAIRLY ACTIVE. QUIETER MARKET FOR BREWERIES. (Bjr Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Most values on a fairly active market •mained at late rates this morning, but iianaki Oilfields were again an exception, ■.ipsing from initial sales at 4/ to final uusiness 3d lower and quotations between o 'S and \J. Government debentures maintained their at length, buyers for all issues receiving no selling response. f Banks were uncertain. Commercial, ordinaries, dropped below 19/, and the preferences also lost a fraction, to £9 8/6. The others were quoted with only minor changes. Christchurch Gas had their first local business since early in April, the price or £17/ being 2/ lower. Quotations finished between £1 0/9 and £1 7/6. The brewery market was quieter, Staples failing to come on the sales list. They were quoted from £2 13/3, to £2 13/11. New Zealand* had dealings at £3 5/6, after which further buyers offered that figure ancl sellers were 3d away. In miscellaneous industrials British Tobaccos were unaltered. The quarterly •dividend of 2 per cent brought no change in the quotations. After business at £2 9/8 the mnrket wan from £2 9/3 to £2 9/8. Dunlop, Perdriaus- maintained yesterday's higher rates, with buyers at £1 1/6 and sellers 3d above. G. J. Coles recovered to a sale and further buyers, at £5 10/. The Wool worths group attracted a little more interest, the New Zealand issue selling at £7 17/, Later there were unsupported Kellers 2/ higher.
