JUMPER'S MISHAP.
COURT ARMA FALLS.
NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE.
PETER BECKFORD IMPRESSES,
It was an ofr morning at Ellerslie this morning and there was very little doing, though several of the latest arrivals were allotted useful tasks an the sand track. These included Jolly Beggar, Royal Limond, Collision, Small Boy, Don Erma, Pennycomequick, Killadar, Keno, Far Land, Cynical Kid and Peter Beckford, while Court Arms was schooled over the hurdles in the centre.
Hie only horse schooled during the morning was Court Anna (T. Wjlliams) who was sent over four hurdles in the centre. He did not have much pace on and jumped safeltf till reaching the last obstacle, which he slipped into and came to grief. On returning to his stall he was bleeding profusely from a cut on one of his knees and was decidedly lame.
Jolly Beggar (R. Beale) and Royal Limond (light boy) worked separately over a couple of rounds. The former went very freely and looks in fine order after his racing at the Waikato meeting.
Far Land, although engaged each day at Ellerslie, may not race at the meeting if the going is heavy. He looks in good trim, but his trainer, A. McGregor, is not anxious to overtax him. To date he
has only had three races, all at Te Rapa, and he has won two of them. Peter Beckford, who is in first-rate fettle, is one of the best-looking horses seen here for some time. He will probably be sprinted to-morrow.. P. Atkins is to ride him at the meeting. C. McCarthy's pair, Monastic and Sky Pilot, have done a fair amount of racing since the autumn and will strip in good order for the Great Northern meeting. Sky *Pilot, who is_ an entire, is only a four-year-old, and is one of the youngest 'chasers in the Dominion. He shows more quality than. the average jumper and should develop into a good sort. Additional riding engagements are:—J. Day, Killadar; A. McGregor, Keno; R. Smith, Monastic and Sky Pilot; J. C. Thompson, Speedfast; H. Wiggins, Small Boy and Valmint; H. Goldfinch. Strathire and Kiltowyn. The- Waikato trainers, W. McLean, R. Martin, R. Mateer and G. Campbell, are due to arrive with their horses this evening. These include: Scotland. Bass. Valpeen. Grand City, Rozel. Huskie, Master Musk and En Tour.
