VISITORS MAROONED.

FLOOD WATERS INVADE SHOW

CONDITIONS IN THE WAIKATO

{By Telegraph.-—Own Correspondent.)

HAMILTON, this day,

Minor flooding is reported in various parts of the Waikjito as a result of heavy rain throughout the night, which resumed about 10 o'clock this morning. The river is well above normal, and storm water drain* in the town are overflowing at various points.

Attendances at the Waikato Winter Show revealed a marked falling off la*t night, and were again detrimentally affected to-day. Those in the amusement area, where a small army of sideshow men are encamped, were the worst sufferers.

The rainfall for the 24 hours eirded at 9 a.m. to-day was .D7in, the heaviest this month.

Flood waters about 11 o'clock this morning swept over the concrete floor of the Bledislce Hall at the Winter Show. and visitors were marooned at each end of the building. On the amusement side of the hall the scene resembled a miniature spillway as muddy "ravel and water poured into the hall. The water seeped into the stands and caused considerable anxiety to stallholders. Several had to act quickly to save their goods and stock, some of which was damaged. Surface water also found its way to the annexe at the entrance to the show, where agricultural exhibits are housed. Here the conditions underfoot are worse than in the Kledisloe Hall. Considering the henvy downpour the conditions could easily have been worse. An army of sweepers soon cleaned away the water after the rain eased off.
