ARMED MAORIS.
ARREST BY POLICE. IN EXHAUSTED CONDITION. FOUND ASLEEP IN CHAIRS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correr.iomlcnt.) KAIKOHE. this day. Saturated and exhausted from being nut in the torrential rain of yesterday, two youiijf Maoris, who were reported to be armed with shotgun* and ammunition, were arrested while asleep last evening. The two men were alleged to have soared Mauris living in the Tautoro district. Tlie men kept well back from the road throughout the whole of yesterday, and traversed rough. scrubcovered country in evading the police. However, the police played a waiting same, realising that their quarry would not he able to spend the night out in The open, and would probably call at some house. This is what occurred, and the two men. after beinz given a meal, fell asleep in their chairs. They were asleep when Detective Nalder. Con-tables r>. Robertson and F. H. MeNutt made their arrest. The police took charge of guns and cartridges.
