GOODS TRANSPORT.
STATE CONTROL SCHEME. FARMERS MICH CONCERNED. (Hy Telpjjrnph.— I'rcss Association.) WELLINGTON*. Thursday. The proposal of the (Government to take over long-distance road g<><xl< services was taken exception to at a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand I'armers' Union. The fear was expressed that this wa* preliminary to taking over all forms of goods transport and that the elimination of competition would not be conducive to efficiency. The Dominion president, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, stated to-night that the executive had discussed the question of the Government assuming control of long-distance road goode services running alongside railways, and the delegates had expressed grave concern as to the effect of this proposal on the cost and efficiency of transport. It was pointed out that the increased costs that would be brought about would fall almost entirely on the rural districts and particularly on the. farming section.
