WORK AT ELLERSLIE.

Crooning and Valmint—Several Horses Schooled. Weather conditions were favourable for training at Ellersiie this morning, though the going was holding. Nevertheless some useful efforts were recorded. No. 2 grass track, with the poles sft out from the rails, was open for fast work, and the hurdle track iu the centre and steeplechase course were also available. Versant (Holland) ran six furlongs in 1.19 2-5, the rirst three taking as 4-os. This was a good trial. Locknit (Murray) and Captain Bruce (Gilchrist) reeled off half a mile in 52 l-ss. This was not bettered during the morning. Kilonsa (Fergus) was under restraint throughout five furlongs, which occupied 1.8 4-5. Aero Queen (Moody) worked leisurely over the same distance in 1.12 3s>. Valspear averaged about 15s to the furlong in a useful task, and High Tea ran the last three furlongs of his work in 44 4s>s. Royal Appellant (Vaughan) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.24 4-5. He increased the speed over the last three, which took 40 2-ss. Bronze Wings, Bright Idea and Clansman came home from the three-furlong post in 40 2-ss. They worked pleasingly. Tybalt (Gilchrist) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. after taking 41 t-5e for the first three furlongs. Cay Broney covered five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, the last three taking 40 2-ss. Okawa (k! Fearn) and Thurwind (Gilchrist>, after taking 25 4-5s for their first two furlongs, completed five in 1.5. This was the best of the morning over the distance, and both went well._ Kelly (Gilchrist) was given an easy six furlongs, which occupied 1.26 1-5. After Breakfast. Horowhenua (Gilchrist) and Knight of Australia (L. Dulieu) traversed a round in 1.47 2-5. the last six furlongs taking 1.20, and the final three 40 3-os. Toolev Street iKearns), who was to have joined them at the five-furlong post, lost ground at the start, and finished just behind them, running the latter distance in 1.6 3-5.

Carshalton and an Acre filly sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-ss, hitting out freely. Armaeourfc (McTavish) just shaded Sliy (Murray) at the end of five furlongs, which took 1.5 3-5. Armacourt is in fine fettle. The best sis furlongs of the morning was credited to Valmint tFearnl and Crooning (L. Dulieu), the distance being covered in 1.18 1-5. They ran the first three in 38 3-is, and Valmint impressed slightly better than his companion. Prince Colossus was sent three furlongs, which occupied 42 l-ss. Silver Sound led United over six furlongs, which took 1.22. United gave his companion several lengths' start. Poi Dance (Fearn) compassed five furlongs in 1.7 4-5, after taking 26s for the first two. Ringshot, who had the better of the weights, shaded Te Hai after traversing a round in 1.47 lss. the last six furlongs being covered in 1.22 1-5. Jolly Broney was timed to complete half a mile in 53 4-ss. Jolly Dance wae also worked, but was not timed. The Jumpers. Speedfast (Coon) was sent over a couple of hurdles twice, and shaped satisfactorily. Lord Val (Baker) finished in front of High Star (Williams) at the conclusion of a school over four hurdles. Lord Val fenced with plenty of dash, though lie got in rather close to the last obstacle. Jalldy Karo (M. O'Connor) did not have a great amount of pace on while negotiating four hurdles, but he gave a firstrate jumping display. Top Star (Craddock) was sent over the sodwall, water jump and stonewall, and got through his task well. Black Marlin (Baker'), Free Air (Kearns) and Whakarerehau (L. Dulieu) were associated in a school over the steeplechase course. Thev jumped the fences on the flat in good style, and were pulled up along the back. They started off again up the hill where they cleared the two fences on the top, and finished up by again jumping the fences on the flat. Ail fenced safely, Black Marlin impressing most.
