VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND.

IMPORTANT CONFERENCE,

Interest has been aroused in education circles abroad by the occurrence of the Seventh Regional Conference in New Zealand and Australia. The Board of Education, London, realising the importance of the occasion, has arranged to send a staff inspector, Mr. O. T. Hankin, 8.A., to represent it here. Mr. Hankin will bring with him an exhibition, specially arranged by the Education Board for the conference, and portraying "Progress in English Education." This will consist of about 200 pictures of work and play besides plans, photos and timetables, arranged in a series of bays, each devoted to some special phase of education. The whole exhibition will occupy a large hall. Mr. Hankin will also bring a large collection of films and gramophone recordings designed to illus-

trate the practical application of mechanical aids to education. On such subjects he is an expert, having lectured upon them in England, South Africa and Canada.

Mr. Hrtiikiii was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he took classics and history, and had the distinction of becoming Scholar and Pepyeian Prizeman. During his early career he taught in English schools of various types, and later became one of the first Assistants Anglais in a French Lycee. In 1913 he was appointed one of His Majesty's Inspectors of Schools. From 1914 to 1018 he served in His Majesty's Forces, and was appointed staff inspector in the Board of Education, London, in 1935. He was a very prominent figure in the New Education Fellowship Conference held in 1934 in South Africa, at which 4000 people attended.

Mr. Hankin is a member of the Council of the Historical Association, International Congress of the Historical Sciences (secretary of the commission in the teaching of history); the Central Council for School Broadcasting, and the History and Imperial Committees of the British Film Institute.

Among his publications the two best known are "The Story of Empire" and "Aims and Organisation of the League of Nations."
