Revivals of four lovely comic operas will be the pleasant lot of New Zealand I theatre-goers next month, for Australia's "Queen of Song,'* Gladys Moncrieff, is ' returning at the head of a J. C. William- - son company in "The Merry Widow," "The Maid of the Mountains," "A South- > ern Maid" and" Katja, the Dancer." Her performances in Australia during , a lengthy season of revival have been alive with warmth and clarity, for Miss i Moncrieff acts with charm as well as i singing gloriously. More than once she [ has held up the show; each entrance and , each exit was a triumph. She literallv ran away with the roles of Dolores in "A Southern Maid." Teresa in "The Maid of the Mountains," and Sonia in "The Merry I Widow," if reports are correct.
