"CORONATION PIER."
SCHEME AT TAURANGA.
OLD WHARF AS PROMENADE.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAURAKGA, this day.
By * recent agreement between the Tauranga Harbour Board and the Tauranga Borough Council the latter took over on lea«se what is known as the Town wharf, which has been cleared of all structures and is to be developed as a promenade. At a meeting, the Borough Council last night, in considering recommendations from the Coronation celebrations committee and its own electricity committee for celebrating the Coronation, resolved: (1) That, subject to the Harbour Board's acquiescence, the council should permanently mark the Coronation by christening the Town wharf "Coronation pier" and should not rel»x its development in beauty and utility until it has reached the standard of any pier south of the line. (2) That this be concentrated upon and only a minimum sum be voted for a demonstration apart from concessions in power and light for private illumination. (3) That two local bands play citizens to the pier on Coronation Night, where these resolutions will be affirmed.
The council, which also voted £25 for contingencies to be expended as the celebration committee deemed fit will illuminate the waterfront' and public buildings.
