CONTROL BOARD. BROADCASTS DISCONTINUED. MR. BERIOWV APPOINTMENT. The broadcasting of matched at Carlaw Park is 'being discontinued, according to a letter dealt with by the Auckland Rugby League Control Board last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding. At a previous meeting the board rejected a proposal by the National Broadcasting Service to utilise the football match periods at the Park for the purposes of advertising, no payment being offered the board in the matter. The acting-director of station IZB acknowledging a letter from the Auckland Rugby League, in noting the cancellation of permission to broadcast, regretted that it wai not passible for the station to broadcast without payment to the board, and with the proviso that' the service should have the complete right to sponsor the relave at their own discretion. Thanking the Rugby League (or the opportunity given to broadcast in the past, the director said it was quite realised that while giving publicity the station also had gained the favour of listeners by broadcasting the matches. The chairman reported having attended a meeting called yesterday by the Mayor of Auckland in connection with the King George V. Memorial Fund. Mr. Campbell said the Mayor had submitted a report, and a committee representative of all interest* in the city had been appointed. Benson, ex-internatiooal referee and former chairman of the Auckland Rugby League and of the Referees' Association, was appointed the board's nominee on the Referees' Appointment Board, "with Mr. T. The board also advised that it did not propose to remunerate referees beyond the present •cale of expenses allowances.
