AGAINST STRIKES.
Strong Action Threatened in
Ontario.
U.S. ORGANISER WARNED
TORONTO, April 9.
The Premier of Ontario, Mr. M. F. Hepburn, to-day issued a warning that the province would not tolerate the chaos and near-anarchy that Mr. John L. Lewis, leader of the Committee of Industrial Organisation, had caused in the United States.
"This is the first open attempt of Mr. Lewis to dominate and dictate to Canadian industry," said Mr. Hepburn. "We believe that the time for a 'showdown' is at the start. There will be no illegal sit-down strikes or picketing, and persons desiring to resume work will be adequately protected. The entire resources of the province will be utilised if the occasion warrants." STRIKE SETTLED. HUDSON MOTOR SETTLEMENT. DETROIT, April 9. The Governor of Michigan, Mr. Frank Murphy, announces settlement of the strike in the Hudson motor works. The conditions of the agreement were similar to those which ended the trouble in the Chrysler plant. This is the last important motor. strike.
