DISCUSSION OF STATUS. Three British women passed through Belgrade recently on their way to Bucharest, to discuss the status of

Balkan women with Queen Marie of Rumania, states a London writer. The Duchess of Atholl (Conservative member of Parliament for Kinross), Lady Layton, and Miss Eleanor Rathbone (Independent member of Parliament for the Combined English Universities) were invited by the Rumanian National Council of Women to visit Bucharest, where they conferred with leading members of the council. Before leaving Belgrade, the three women were received in audience by Prince Paul of Yugoslavia, with whom they discussed the possibility of a wider role for women in the Yugoslav internal political life.

In Zagreb the visitors met Ivan Mestrovich, the famous Yugasiav sculptor, and were shown round the town by M r TrUmbich, Mayor of Zagreb. They spoke to;. M. The Duchess of Athol stated that cooperation with Soviet Russia through the league of Nations was a vital factor for world peace. Miss Rathbone declared that besides visiting Bucharest, aim was to investigate the. sociological, and especially the feminine, problems throughout the Balkan lands. '
