OVERCROWDING IN BRITAIN.

Local authorities will be responsible for fixing specified dates after which breaches of the regulations may lead to a prosecution. m J h ® Government's statement points out that an occupier or tenant who is guilty of overcrowding is liable to prosecution and, if convicted, to a penalty not exceeding £5. The permitted number of persons allowed to occupy the house is set out, and if this number is exceeded or if •two persons Qf>opposite sex over ten years old, and not husband and wife sleep in the same room, then it will be classified as overcrowded. ~ cou ntingthe • number of persons • the statement adds, "each child under ten years counts as half a person, and a child of less than one year is not countcd at all."
