LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

BUSINESS OF OOUNOXIk EARLY PRESIDENCY ELECTION. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby League last evening, Mr. J. \V. Taylor presiding, it was decided to elect the new president in succession to Mr. Cyril Snedden early next month. The chairman reported that a deputation of members visited the new South Auckland League headquarters at Huntly and found that one ground of the 21-acre area would shortly be available for play. The officials and supporters were enthusiastic and had completed arrangements for the erection of a grandstand. Communications were received from the English council, giving its first official intimation of approval of the International Board proposal. Wellington, Canterbury and West Coast Leagues wrote in regard to domestic matters and a letter waA received from a new centre interssted in the game. MARIST OLD BOYS' CLUB. The annual report of the Marist Old Boys Rugby League Club, presented at the meeting held in the A. R. L. Rooms last evening, stated- frankly that, with the exception of the reserve grade, the club Sade thirteens were hopelessly beaten it season, due to a lack of enthusiasm by the players and by those in charge of them. The senior team were the wont offenders, and their failure to show * proper example to the vounger members m the matter of attendance at practice caused the executive much concern. The outgoing committee therefore recommended that players failing to attend training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings must account for their absence, and it was hoped there would be full co-operation with the enforcement of the suggestion. It was felt that the club would have valuable playing material for 1937. Dealing in detail with the • grade sides, the success of tlie senior reserves and tlie schoolboys in their respective grades for tlie knockout was a subject for congratulation. Complimentary reference was made to tlie representative honours gained by P. Hiislam, who played for North Inland and for Northland against the Englishmen, and by J. Breed and W. Glover, who respectively represented Auckland and Taranaki against the British team. Financially the club was in a healthy condition, and looked forward to 1937 play with brightest hopes. The president, Mr. J. Sayegh, extended a welcome to old and new players (including three bluejackets from H.M.S. Philomel) and officials, and the report and balance-sheet present were adopted, and the officers responsible for their compilation were thanked.

Officers were elected as follows:— Patron, Hie Lordship Bishop Liston; president, Mr. J. Sayegh; committee (acting with coaches and ex-officio officer*), | Messrs. J. Ball, W. Maddigan, G. Copas, P. Hughes, and F. Webberley; hon. eecretary, Mr. J. Kirwan; hon. treasurer, Mr. P. Fletcher; club captain, Mr. J. Laird (vice Mr. H. Brisbane); delegate to junior management, Mr. F. Thompson; to dfchool management, Mr. G. Foster; auditors, Messrs. O. H. Johnson and J. F. Hollinrake; hon. masseurs, Messrs. G. Duffy and D. Petty. The appointment of coaches was left to the incoming committee, acting in concert with the grade team representatives. A lengthy discussion took place with regard to training and selection policy, arising from the report. Training for all grades will start at Carlaw Park on Saturday. NEWTON RANGERS. At the annual meeting of tlie Newton Rangers, held at the Y.M.C.A., the patron, Mr. M. Hooper, in congratulating the club ou its sound progress, referred to the loss suffered by the departure to Te Awamutu of the chairman of the committee, Mr. Roy C. Baddeley. Officers were elected as follows:— Patron, Mr. M. Hooper; vice-patron, Mr. W. Monteith; president, the Hon. W. E. Parry; vice-presidents, same as last year, with power to add; secretary and assistant, Messrs. E. W. Cloke and G. Matthews; treasurer, Mr. P. Henry; committee, Messrs. G. Steven, J. F. Dyer, N. Reston, K. Grantley, and C- Moyle. After 26 years of service, Mr. G. Steven was made a life member. The chairman, on behalf of the donor, Mr. Cloke, presented a blazer to Atnol Massey for his fine leadership and example as captain of the third grade A team. The report, which commented favourably on the performance of all the club's teams, also stated that the financial position was satisfactory, and in the coming season the wearers of the red and white colours would be to the fore. ELLERSLIE CLUB. Held in the Parish Hall, Ellerslie, the Ellerslie United Club's annual meeting, presided over by Mr. J. Mclnnamey, drew the largest attendance for some V^ars. In commenting on the four teams, including school teams, special mention was made of the play and success of the third grade team, which, coached by international R. Gregory, won the championship. The fourth grade was third and like the schoolboy thirteen, third in the knock-out. The club, which was in a satisfactory financial position, hoped to enter teams this year in the senior B, third, fourth and seventh trades and also two schoolboy sides.

The third grade players were presented with caps and Mr. Gregory accepted the R. Benson trophy on the team's behalf. Officers were elected as follow: —Patron, Mr. A. G- Osborne, MJ*.; president, Mr. J. Mclnnamey; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. H. Mclsaac, A. Chapman, J. Court and H. McNaughton, with power to add; club captain, F. Chapman; committee, Messrs. G. Skeen (chairman), J. Pinches, A. Tobin, R. Hunter, T. Emery, J. Wilson, W. Miller. M. Campbell, H. Thomas, A. Strong; secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Whalev; auditors, Messrs. J. Carr and 0. D- Slye. MOUNT ALBERT CLUB. At the annnal meeting of the Mount Albert League Football Club, Mr. A. C. Gallagher presiding over an attendance of upwards of 200 players and supporter*, it was decided to hold at an early date a district queen carnival In conjunction with the bowling club and local branch of tbe R.B.A. The report and balance-sheet ss published were adopted and comment made on the general progress of tbe club.
