That lie played a game of chance on January 11 was the summons charge brought against Perry Davis in the Police Court this morning. Detective Mahood and Constable Allsopp made inquiries and on January 11 they found defendant and 12 men gathered around a crown and anchor board playing the game. There was 4/2 on the board. Davis frankly admitted he was conducting the game but would not do so again in the future. Davis had never been in any previous trouble. 'This game of crown and anchor is an old war game and a fair game," said Mr. Aekins. "Davis was a member of the Pioneer Battalion during the war, when crown aud anchor wan plaved a lot." A fine of £2 and costs was imposed. Davis was allowed two weeks to pay.
