WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.
A SOUND EFFORT. Although he had not been in work long Real Red went a useful race to finish just behind the placed horses in the Trial Handicap at Epsom, and slight improvement on that effort would give him a chance in some of the minor classes on the country circuit. Real Red appeared to be a trifle big at Epsom, and the out--1 ing is sure to do a lot of good. A SLOW BEGINNER. In her work Golden Maid displays a lot of promise, but her inability to strike? a trait smartly has jeopardised her chances on race day, and she is still in the novice class. A half-sister to Kuini, this mare promised to soon win a race amongst the maiden trotters, but until she learns to begin quickly her prospects of taking a high mark do not appear bright. A CONSISTENT MARE. Gold Dredge raced consistently at Epsom, and after dividing the first prize in the open sprint with Nervie's Last on the opening day, the daughter of Rey de Oro was again in the money in both the Alexandra Park and Farewell Handicaps on the second day. Gold Dredge does not do much racing, but her record is a good one, and the first time the :lass is net as strong as at Epsom she should have bright prospects of returning to the winning list.
