THEFT ALLEGED.
YOUNG AUCKLAND DENTIST.
MISSING MJCROSOOPE. (By Telegraph.—Preee Association.) DUXEDfEST, Wednesday. A young eurgeon dentist practising in Auckland, whose name was suppressed meantime, was charged in the Police Court with stealing a microscope valued at £15, the property of the Otago University. He pleaded not guilty. Professor Dodds stated that there were 19 microscopes at the dental school for the nee of students. On December 15 he eaw a microscope at a pawn office which he Identified as dental school property. He was well acquainted with accused, who had studied under him. George Latimer, pawnbroker, stated that the instrument was pawned by the accused in February, 1934, for £3. The sum of £7 4/ was owing as interest. Detective-Sergeant Walsh, at Auckland, produced a statement, in which the accused admitted pawning the microscope, stating that he had intended to redeem it. Accused wae committed for trial," counsel stating that he pleaded not guilty, as he would then have a definite date on which to appear. He asked for the suppression of the name, intimating that he intended to ask the Supreme Court to regard this as an exceptional, case. ' Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., consented with reluctance to suppress the name.
