CABLES AND WIRELESS.
JANUARY TRAFFIC RECEIPTS. YEAR STARTS WELL. After several months of comparative dullness the estimated traffic receipts of Cables and Wireless, Ltd., registered a sharp advance in December hist. The month ot January showed a seasonal reaction, but the returns are much greater than were registered for the first month in recent years. The working day averageof comparative receipts, taking 100 as tli<index figure 1929, for four years i« as follows:—January. 1934, 71.8: 1935 73 >■ 1936, 71.2; 1937, 85.5. The index figures represent the estimated monthly receipt* from traffic as related to the comparable traffic in 1929 Ihe lowest index figure since 1929 was 61.8, in August, 1931, and the highest was last December, at 96.4.
