GERMANY AND LEAGUE
DIPLOMATIC BARGAINING. LONDON, February 18. Assistance to enable Germany to obtain raw materials from her former colonies will be given by Britain and France only if Germany rejoins the League of Nations. This is understood to have been the tenor of the reply made by the aetinj(Foreijrn Minister, Viscount Halifax, to the German Ambassador, Herr von Ribbentrop, after an exchange of views lasting two hours. It was made clear to Herr von Ribbentrop that neither Britain nor France was prepared to surrender former German colonies, and that access to raw materials must be dependent upon a general European settlement, ae well as upon Germany's return to the League.
