TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH

SENSATIONAL PRICES. METAL SHARES DOMINATE. I (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star. ,, ) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. I. uprecedeuted activity on the Chiistchuich .Stock Exchange iias brought prices to sensational levels in the last tew calls. Buying orders are coining forward with a ! zest unknown for many years, and metal !shares, which are dominating the markets, have gone- to record values, with no sign of immediate cessation of the upward rush. Of the 5000 shares sold in Christchmxh this morning, Mount v Lyells contributed 11.0 at prices up to £2 17/. Klectrolytic Zincs totalled 780 at values up to £3 4/6 lor ordinary and £3 6 6 for preference shares; Broken Hill Proprietary, 300 shares, included in which were four parcels of the contributing issue at an advance of 1/, to £3 18/9. Fully paid Broken Hill Proprietary jumped by 2/3. to £4 10/o. Mount Morgans, influenced by the better price for copper, moved up to 18/3, and Kawang Tins, which came up to 12/ recently, shot to 13/8 to-day. Buyers for all the above shares remained at firm levels lit Lit business had been completed. Though other classes of shares were active they were overshadowed by the metals group. G. J. Coles roee by 2 6, and Woolwoiths (Sydney. Old.) by a few shillings. Taranaki Oilfields took a sudden trend upwards to a sale and further buyers at 3/3.
