KEYS AND SMITE GO DOWN. CHAMPIONS BEATEN BY BALMORAL Fifty-five teams are competing in the annual pairs tournament of the Rotorua Bowling Club, which opened yesterday at the Government Gardens in perfect conditions. Three rounds were played, and the feature of the play was the defeat of last year's champions, Keys and Smith, of the Auckland Club, who went down to the Balmoral team, McKeggie and Gibson, in the very first round. Sykes and Harper (Otahuhu) did not suffer a loss in the three games played. Graham and Hunt, of Ponsonby, who last year were runners-up, also lost in the third round. Detailed results: — SECTION A.
