PRESENTS FOR MEN.

There are many occasions when special care has to be taken in selecting a present for a man. It may be a wedding gift, a Christmas present, or birthday remembrance for a very particular person. Anyway, one puts on one's thinking cap and thinks hard, studies catalogues, consults friends and relatives, goes shop-gazing, and finally makes one's choice, hoping it will give pleasure. If it is for a relative or iiftimate friend, then one probably knows his likes and dislikes, his particular wants, and if one has the money one can fulfil them. Tobacco, cigars and cigarettes are somewhat ordinary, but one can make a bad mistake unless one buys his own special brand—no other will do, however highly it may be recommended by shopkeepers. If you want a rather inexpensive gift for Christmas or birthday, then you can give socks, tie r.nd handkerchiefs if you sire absolutely sure of his tastes, and choose something quiet and unobtrusive, and what you might consider dull. If you are a really good knitter you can knit him socks, or a pullover, cardigan or slipover, but again it must be neat. inconspicuous and well done. Slippers, gloves, an umbrella, a safety razor, books, tools, something for the car or garden, cases for pyjamas, ties, collars for the very tidy men—any of these might be a good choice, or again it might be superfluous. If you want to give a really nice p. jsent on any special occasion you cannot do better than choose a travelling rug. A rug is always useful co the motorist, and even if he already possesses one he can do with more, and it can be used in the home, too, as well as when travelling by train or on a cruise. Thr. new rugs are most attractive in colour and design.
