EXTERMINATE WHALES
Feared Result of German and
Japanese Killing.
REFUSAL OF RESTRICTION.
(Received 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Captain J. K. Davis, Commonwealth Director of Navigation, who has been a member of many Antarctic expeditions, predicts the almost complete extinction of whales in the Antarctic within a few
years because of unrestricted killing by Japanese fleets.
"To preserve world whaling grounds, 28 British and Norwegian whaling companies formed an agreement to protect the industry through regulation of catches and seasons," said Captain Davis. "Japanese and German companies disregard this agreement. The whaling industry is already doomed. It is too late for Australia to consider entering the industry."
