CANTERBURY TITLES,
DEFEAT OF SPRINT CHAMPION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHKISTCHURCH, Saturday. Under well nigh perfect climatic conditions and with the track in very good order the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association continued its track and Held championships at Lancaster Park this afternoon. In the women's broad Jump Miss Strachan (South Canterbury) broke the New Zealand record with a jump of 17ft 81in. The old record was 17ft 2Jln, set last year by Miss B. It. Munro, of Auckland, and formerly of Canterbury. The 220 yds hurdles. an excellent race, was won by EJ. P. Newburgh. the young Canterbury runner. In 25 3-ss, only l-5s outside the NVw Zealand record. V. P. Boot, the Olympic Games representative, ran an excellent race, well within nimself. in the 880 yds. His time was 1.56 l-r», compared with the New Zealand record of 1.54 4-5, of which he is the joint holder. In the lOOyds G. C.
