DOMAIN PLAY.

SECOND ROUND GAMES.

RO SKILL IN STRONG POSITION. » SPECTACULAR LATE BATTING BY R.Y. There was some spectacular batting in the third series of the City and Suburban Association championship matches at the Domain on Saturday. Manukau, thanks to enterprising early play by Waters (48) and Xinkie, followed by Martin (23), Mann (26) and Motion (including two sixes, 27), finished at 6.20 p.m. with a total of 219 against Green Lane, for whom Crowhurst, Barnes and Kerr shared the bowling honours. Yiscoe (tK>) topped the score for Ponsonby, who coin piled 195 against Mount Roskill. Young (31), Reid (29) and Lonergan (24) were other worthy contributors. In their reply Langdon (62) and Wood (56) batted in sparkling style to remain unbeaten at stumps and to place Roskill in a strong position with 126 runs for one wicket. Wood earlier bowled well, taking live wickets for 58 runs. After making a fair start against R.V., with Y. Williams (29) and later Hemmingson (29), Brixton went down badly with 104 runs against R.V., who replied with gay-abandon type of batting and delighted the crowd. Rose (57) and Goldsworthy (73) —the latter having also trundled effectively in collaboration with Wildman —made 41 off six overs and 103 for the partnership in 40 minutes, when Goldsworthy. who hit 14 fours and a six. was well held at deep cover. Rose carried on brightly with Banibury and 221 runs for eight wickets were on the board for 75 minutes' play at stumps. Competition table :— Ch. I'. W. Jj. D. I'ts.
