BARBERS' WAGES.

AGREEMENT REACHED

MALES £5 PER WEEK. ONE WEEK'S HOLIDAY. Hairdressers and their employees met in Conciliation Council this morning to discuss the question of wages, holidays and several minor matters connected with the award for the trade. The morning's sitting resulted in a weekly wage of £."> and one week's holiday on full pay at the completion of a year's service being agreed upon. Casual workers are to be paid at the rate of 2/(1 per hour.

All statutory holidays are to lie allowed, with the exception of January 2. Ka-ter Monday ami Boxing Day, when hairdressing saloons may open for three hours between s a.m. and 11 a.m. For work on these three flays employees must be paid overtime at the rate of ■!/!) an hour, in addition to .the ordinary weekly wages for the 'time.

In the absence of the Conciliation Commissioner. Mr. R. E. Price. the chair was taken by Mr. 1!. M. Carter, who appeared as representative of several absent country assessors.

The issues to lie settled were divided into two sections, those affecting men employees and those afleeting women. Mr. W. K. Anderson. secretary of the Employers' Kcderation. appeared as advocate tor both section-. while the assessors were Messrs. T. Coleman. C. K. Walker and 1!. M. Cart"r (for the men), ami Messrs. S. W.
