N.Z. SISTERS.

TOURING THE WORLD. j ADVENTURES IN A CARAVAN.; I SINGING AND DANCING. ! I SAX FRANCISCO. January 7. C'alifor.iians have been delighted with , the visit to their State of two New , Zealand sisters. Misses Joan and Betty : Rayner. both troubadours, who have • been seeing the world under adven- • Iturons circumstances. When they left 'their native New Zealand they had ring,|ing in their ears the paternal advice: 1 *'N'o\v. daughters. America is a dangerI oils place. Promise me you won't t'.ivel unescorted." So out of the safety .if ( the Dominion '"down under"' into the t terrors of the United States, came .loan • and Betty, and in direct defiance of their ''father's admonitions, what did they do but buy a "caravan"—trailer. "We don't dare send dad any news- , papers, because the minute he reads 'about strikes and murders and robberies ,be would be worried to death.' , chuckled the sisters, who travelled all over Kiirope and Kngland with not even a good scare. They are two girls with but a single thought—to entertain in a I new .md delightful fashion. Their icaravan has brought them to San Franiciseo. where their gaieties have been ! delighting all who have heard them. They appeared in a special performance in San Francisco in a dancing, singing and cavorting programme in the exclusive Women's City Club for the annual Christmas party. They also gave other refreshing programmes at the French Theatre at two performances, which aroused the greatest approbation. In the meantime their caravan was resting in the picturesque garden at Chestnut and Franklin Streets in San ; Fram-Uco. Casual callers found tln"n "washing up" in the diminutive sink -n the modern trailer that is home where j ever they go. 1;

Through England and Scotland,! Germany. Fran«f and Sweden. thes*gay troupers have travelled, always in a! caravan, leaving delightful memories in! their wake. This has been their first! ,'Aineriran tour. j "Our greatest trouble is in keeping , children in the audience off the stage."! laughed the girls. "They think were I having so much fun they want to come up and play with us." j Probably the most exciting time thev ( ever had was in Sweden, when just as they drove along a narrow road the section just ahead of them quietly faded into the lake below. -And we" had t<. , drive around a long way. and we didn't .reach r nn destination until 2.30 in I'mmorning—and on cur last drop of j>etrol!" they exclaimed. It is impossible to quote one or the other, incidentally, for they pick up one another's conversational leads r-o t ;l < t that tlieir ideas! jseem to bubble up simultaneously. ' I <Jardens are their favourite resting places. and they have dwelt ani<»nj; flowers of the clergy, nobility and I moners alike. The cara\an idea came . to them first as an economy measure— trailers cost less abroad it seems—hut ' they kept it up Ixn-ause their portable home was much nicer than country hotel*, ' I Never a bit of trouble have they had ! —except, when they struggle to* prop! up their caravan for a day's stop, when tlieir prayer is:"Oh. Lord, send us a man—just for five minutes." —
