SHOOTING MYSTERY.
INJURY TO RACEHORSE. INCIDENT AT HASTINGS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) NAPIER, this day. .Indiscriminate shooting from a large shed used as a rifle range recently endangered a number of Hastings residents and resulted In actual injury to the racehorse Cutie, owned by Mr. G. W. B. McCormick. The horse was benig grazed near a miniature range at a fruit assembly shed, when a shot rang out, and the horse began to play up frantically. An examination showed that it had received a wound; which fortunately was not of a serious nature, from a stray bullet fired from a .22 ride. A subsequent inspection of the hall showed that several shots had been fired at random. One of the walls showed marks of a large number of shots, and practically every window had been shot through. The Fruitgrowers' Federation, which controls the shed, had no knowledge of the damage to the shed until workmen arrived there this morning to start repairs necessitated for other reasons. The police, who are investigating the affair, arc satisfied that the firing was done by some unauthorised person, who forced his way into the shed, and discovered rifles and other property belonging to the Hastings Miniature Rifle Club, -which was stored there.
