ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM. POSITION' ACUTK. The problem of adequate ncc-ominodn-lion for the yachting licet, is exercising interested public opinion in C'lu'istcliurcli. as well as in Auckland. Accommodation for vai'hts in Lvttelton Harbour is becoming a problem for the Harbour Hoard, and its snlutinn h in be given full consideration. The chairMr. \V. IC. McAlpinp, said at Wednesday's meeting of the board that nccoini latiou in the inner harbour was full, and there were many applications for mooring space. •'lf we are to give encouragement tu yachting, and 1 think we should, the whole matter must, be investigated." said Mr. McAlpine. 'There is no immediate urgency, and the utilisation of Diamond Harbour or Whitewash Head may be taken into account."
The liciiin! approved llic trnnsfcr of the Lyttoltoii Rowing Club's shed to the Hanks' IVninsula Cruising Club. An npplictttion was received from the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club for a site" or platform to erect a club or boathotise to supplement its present boathouse. The club first submitted proposals for it platform and ramp estimated to cost £:S7O. That was amended on a more ambitions scale, the second submission boini» for a combined boathouse and clubhouse to cost the club about £100(1, the engineer estimating the cost to the board at £500. The special committee which considered the club's proposals was not prepared to recommend on the second proposal. Finally, the whole matter of yacht accommodation was postponed for more detailed consideration.
