HIGH TRIBUTE.
HON. ELIOT R. DAVIS.
TERRITORIAL.
ASSOCIATION
praise for his work as chairman was S'ven the Hon. Eliot R. Davis at a special meeting of the New Zealand Territorial Association (Northern Command) called last night to bid him farewell. Mr. Davis leaves by the Wanganella to-day on a six months' holiday to Japan, America and England. Mr. H. T. Goldie saul that it was the definite opinion of the executive that Mr. Davis was the right person to have its chairman of the association, and the speaker expressed his appreciation of the fact that Mr Davis had consented to hold office and not to resign, as he had originally intended to do. It would have been liard for the association to find another chairman who was so vitally interested in the work of the association, said Mr. A. G. Limn. He added that on many occasions the chairman had gone to personal expense so that the association might benefit. In a sense Mr. Davis was a liaison officer between the executive and the Government and as such, apart from his personal attributes, was an important factor in the progress of the association. Replying, Mr. Davis said he had been delighted to work with Mr. Goldie, to whom he paid a special tribute, and with the executive generally. He knew the enthusiasm they all had in the work. But for that enthusiasm it would have been impossible to carry forward the association's objectives, mainly because all sections of the community failed to realise the necessity for defence. On his return, he added, he would be pleased to take up again his position as chairman.
