A strongly sustained demand for flock Romney rams was shown at the first day of the Feilding Ram Fair, which opened yesterday (Thursday) under the auspices of the Feilding A. and P. Association. Close on 1200 stud and flock rains were offered to an attendance of buyers representative of all parts of the North Island and a great sale resulted, particularly for all rams showing conformation to type and carrying good fleeces. The sale for stud ranis was rather disappointing, the average price for the over 30 rams sold being 22gs, but much better results were obtained with the flock rams in the classes exhibited at the Feilding Show on Tuesday and Wednesday. In the case of these rams the average price was 17gs, with the top price being right up to that paid for stud rams. For ordinary flock J rams prices were guineas in advance of I previous years, the average price in the first run being just short of 9gs. Kiwitea district breeders were particularly successful, the rams from well-known flocks fn that area setting a new standard of value at the fair. LONDON MEAT TRADE. LAMB PRICES FIRM. The following cable, dated London, February 3, has been received by the Bank of Australasia from its London office:— Frozen Lambs.—Large arrivals early in I last month, together with increased stocks accumulated previously owing to poor demand, made prices weaker, and trade continued slow. It was also handicapped by the influenza epidemic, and a further small decline took jpace. Owing to smaller New Zealand in December, stocks became temporarily short, and although the demand is only moderate the market is firm with an upward tendency. Frozen Mutton.—Supplies are limited and prices steady in spite of slow trade. Recently there have been more inquiries for ewes, and the market is firmer for these. Frozen Beef. —Supplies are limited here and afloat. Prices have advanced slightly. The demand is comparatively good. (
