TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. A BUSY MORNING. —m SALES COVER WIDE AREA. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") ' CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Xo less than 35 sales were made on Exchange this morning. In addition to reported business the culls saw dealing in a very wide range of issues, buyers making .some improvement in several directions. Chain stores, however, were quiet, with a slight easing for G. J. Coles. Banks were inclined to slip from recent rates. Commercials, ex dividend, had a consequent marking down with a sale' at 19/6, being a reduction of 4d, compared with yesterday afternoon. E., S. and A.'s eased by 1/. Sellers of Unions lowered their limits to £10 9/. New Zealands, however, moved up a point to sale and sellers at £2 0/7. Christchurch Gas, ex dividend, had a market between £18/ and £1 9/3. Slightly easier quotation for Staples was the only uncertain feature in the brewery section, the market standing from £1 17/ to £2 0/6. New Zealand and Tooth's sold at £2 17/3 and £2 17/ respectively. Buyer's ottered £2 3/ for Dominions without response. Australian industrials were the most active of the miscellaneous issues, Broken Hills improving for contributings. Zincs gained fractionally, with final buyers at £2 15/1 for the ordinaries and £2 16/6 for the preferences. G. J. Coles lost 1/3, compared with the peak level yesterday afternoon, and the market closed 3d either side of £5. Howard Smiths and Hume Pipes (Aust.) eased a little, but the rest of the section, including New Zealand issues, remained firm. Mount Lyells moved up, with sale and further buyers at £2 3/, while Morgans relapsed to 16/7. The unlisted section was more active than usual, Alloy Steel (Aust.) again selling at £1 2/, Perpetual Forests (4/ paid) at the firm price of £ 1 1/, and Woolworths (Sydney), old., at £8 12/6.
