PREMIER TO PREMIER.
RADIO-TELEPHONE TALKS
ALL OTHER TRAFFIC CLEARED
When Mr. Baldwin speaks to Mr. Savage (or to any other Dominion Premier) by radio-teleplione, "the other traffic of five Continents is cleared to give them immediate communication." wrote Mr. Montague Smith in the "Daily Mail" when commenting before the abdication of King Edward on the speedy consultations of the Governments of the British Commonwealth.
"Only a short while ago formal despatches coded and cabled through the Dominions Office were the normal means of consultation between the Government in London and that of any of the Dominions. To-day Mr. Baldwin picks up the telephone at No. 10. Downing Street and is connected within a matter of seconds with the Prime Minister of any of the Dominions. They talk like friends round the same table, and have done so many times during the past few days.
"London—at an office in Carter Lane, E.C.—is now the exchange for the whole world in the matter of wireless telephone conversations. If Mr. Baldwin wishes to speak to the Prime Minister of Australia, or of New Zealand, on intimate Imperial affairs, arrangements have been made whereby other radio traffic in Far Eastern airs can be jammed to ensure the secrecy of their talks."
