ANION TO RESUME.

PALTTSTRE X>OING WELL.

FLOOD TroE'S PROG R Ail ME.

Romani has been impressing by his style when moving along, and the Paladin—Gold Lii> colt is acquiring racing condition. -Another member o£ K. Pope's team who has created a favourable impression is liixie, who is very forward and will be icacly at time of asking. Trixie is a filly by Appellant—Legation, therefore a fullsister to Application. Anion has made a reappearance, and his pi cparution is likely to be recommenced at an early date. Anion has hail several interruptions to his preparations, but it is to be hoped that all goes well oil this occasion, as the Chief Ruler—Hyades colt is a good galloper. He was very consistent as a two-year-old without winning, but opened his three-year-old career promisingly when he won the Champion Hack I late at Avondale and on the second day ran fourth in the Guineas won by Gallic. These were the only occasions he has faced the starter this season. Although Bachelor King is unlikely to be raced a great deal more this season, he has been nominated for the juvenile events at le Papa and Te Aroha. His form has been very consistent all through the season, and he lias earned £655 as a result of three firsts and five seconds. Probably he will be kept going until the Champagne Stakes lias been decided, and he can be relied on to give a good account of himself in any event which he contests. Bachelor King is raced on lease by Mr. George Main, whose colours were previously carried by Alpinus. Mai de Mer has been an absentee since his return from the Wellington meeting, and he is to he given a good spell before being taken up again. This gelding has not shown the promise of his brother at the same age, but he has speed, and with the experience he has had should prove useful next term. Flood Tide's next race is to be the Te Aroha Cup. The Tidal gelding failed rather badly in the Wellington Cup, but incidentally was not the only public fancy to do so. His form was not in keeping with his best, but the reverse way may have played a big part in those failures. Flood Tide has been doing steady work since his return and has brightened up. Raepata has taken no harm from his recent outing and will be taken to Matamata on Friday. Raepata shaped encouragingly by beating all but Bonstar in the [ maiden on Saturday, and indications are ' that he should not be long in scoring his initial success. Parquet has been shaping up as a result of brighter work, and the Limond mare should be ready at time of .asking. She has had plenty of time to acquire racing condition, and at present bears a very solid appearance. Parquet may make her reappearance at the Rotorua meeting. Unlucky at Thames.

Tliurwind failed at the Thames meeting, ind while he did not flatter his supporters in the Hack Cup he was unlucky in the maiden event oil the opening day, and may have been in the money had he not been checked on a couple of occasions. He is a maiden with prospects in his class (vhen the company is not too strong. No fault can be found with the condition >f Palustre, who showed brilliant speed in iier races at the Thames meeting. Palustre is now reaching an unfavourable position in the handicaps, but she should again win in her turn. The Tea Tray filly is entered for the Ilotoruii meeting, and, all going well, will fulfil engagements there. Nun Nicer was produced at the Takapuna meeting, and, considering the time be has been in work since his operation :or respiratory trouble, he acquitted himself well. As there is a likelihood of his contesting the chief handicaps at Te Rapa tnd Te Aroha his work from now on will .•reate interest. Nun Nicer ran second and 3rst in "these events respectively last season, and in the same condition he would igain be a force to be reckoned with. As \ T un Nicer has on both occasions an inplaced performance at the Takapuna rieeting prior to racing at the abovemen;ioned fixtures, it will be interesting to lote whether history repeats itself. l)oric Star has been working satisfac;orily, but has not made the improvement expected. The Captain Bunsby mare has lot raced a great deal and has not been suited by soft tracks. She may be capable )f showing improvement at Te Rapa, tvhere she is likely to be raced next. An interesting entry in the Rotorua C'up is Surella. This colt has failed to make ihe grade in hack s'print events and has been disappointing since succeeding at the Whangarei meeting. Surella may be a success over a middle distance, but up till now sprinting has been his forte, and in none of his races has he shown staying ability. Sacconi has been working nicely, and the Surveyor two-year-old will be ready for autumn juvenile events. Sacconi is a finelooking youngster and possesses a nice iction. He should eventually be found making an impression as he gains experience. Queen Nona's full-sister, Min Lu, was not raced at the Takapuna meeting, owing to the heavy track, to which_ she is not suited. Min Lu made an inauspicious debut at the Christmas meeting, but is speedy, and will have plenty of opportunities before the season concludes. Thangilamba has made progress since resuming work, and it is intended to race her at the Waikato meeting. The Whirlwind filly looks very solid, and provided she shows no recurrence of her recent injury she should not be hard to place to advantage in hack sprint events. The Australian jockey W. Bartle will be riding at the Matamata meeting, when one of his mounts will be Shining Spear. Having a Spell. The Vaals —Big Bertha colt Natal has been accorded a spell, following his outing last week. A very big colt, he should benefit by the respite. During his preparation he showed sufficient promise to indicate that he will prove useful next term. Wait and See will probably be taken to the Matamata meeting, and thence to Rotorua. The Rosewing mare secured a win at the former meeting last season and has prospects of repeating that success on this occasion. Ivy Willonyx is the latest acquisition to 0. Morse's team, this filly having arrived earlier in the week. Ivy Willonyx takes the place of Merry Lap, who has been given a respite, following his mediocre displays at the Takapuna meeting. Merry Lap apparently lost confidence in his jumping following a fall at the Ellerslie Christmas meeting. I. Tucker is having a little difficulty with the Lapidary filly Gai Wind, who has a doubtful-looking tendon in the off fore- „ leg. War Picture has resumed work, following a long spell, during which she has furnished considerably, but has not grown a. great deal. This two-year-old, who is by Sargon—Picture, may find her size detrimental to her prospects, though she shows speed. Lady Ruler and Spearcourt have both schooled well since racing at the Thames meeting and are to fulfil their engagement in the at Matamata on Saturday, when C. Walters will again pilot Lady Ruler and F. E. Baker will have the mount on, Spearcourt. Gray Talkie looks little the worse for his two races at the Takapuna meeting, and the outings are likely to grove beneficial for coming engagements. The Gay Shield colt, who will not race again until the Waikato meeting, ran a good race in the St. Andrew's Handicap last Saturday, and as hehad had a restricted preparation prior to the meeting he is expected to strip much better next time out. On the two occasions Ebb and Flow has started this season he has encountered soft tracks, which were not to his advantage. The Tidal gelding may soon be capable of showing his worth when track conditions are to his liking. Valamito, who has been on the easy list since before the Christmas meeting, is again working regularly, and the soreness prevalent when he first resumed is gradually disappearing, and, all going well, he should not be long in again sporting silk. Valamito loolts in great condition, and his enforced respite does not appear to have ' ->°n detrimental.
